First Contact

I find it is often helpful to speak briefly on the phone to get a sense of what your needs are. I am also comfortable being contacted by email. Please see the Contact Me section of my website for my email address and information about communicating via email.

Initial Consultation

I see the first two sessions as an initial consultation for both of us. I would encourage you to see this as a time with no strings attached, and an opportunity to learn more about me to see if you feel comfortable working with me. It is very important that you feel comfortable with the therapist you choose.

During these two sessions, we will review my practices regarding therapy, confidentiality, and payment. I feel it is important for you to understand what we are both agreeing to, should we decide to work together. I also gather information about what you hope to get from therapy and your personal history. This information helps me understand you more deeply, and for us to formulate plans for therapy together that meet your needs.

After the first two sessions, we will decide whether working together is the best approach, given your goals and comfort level with me. If we decide to work together, we will schedule regular psychotherapy sessions. If not, I can offer you referrals to providers in the community who may be able to help.
